Weeks 9 - Weigh in...(21st December 2011)

Week 9 - Weigh in... (21st Dec)
Weight: 70.6 kg

Once again, only 0.6 kg gone...
Well, probably because I missed Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week!!!

Really looking forward to Christmas BUT also dreading it....cos I won't be able to go to the gym...must try and work out still.

Soon I'll be below 70 kg...hopefully...
I think I haven't been below 70 kg for more than 12 years...? Not sure...

Anyway, 2011 has been a very interesting year....2012 will be even better!!! =)

Weeks 7 - Weigh in...(7th December 2011)

How can it be the end of Week 7 already?!!!
Dang...time is going by too fast lah!!!

Week 7 - Weigh in... (7th Dec)
Weight: 71.8 kg

It seems that each week I miss a Saturday at the gym, I don't reach my 1 kg minimum loss...Arghhhh....Really seems like 1 step forward but 2 steps back!!! Only lost 0.8 kg...

It's been 2 weeks since I ran out of cereal and started eating oats again...I want cereal again. I don't mind oats...but it does get a bit "jelak" after a while.
(I can't think of the English word for "jelak"...)

Guess what? I'm almost the lightest of the family! Woot!!!

Ok, time to head to the gym.
Please let it be a good day!!!

Weeks 6 - Weigh in...(30th November 2011)

I'm halfway through my body makeover challenge!!! SO FAST LAH!!!

Week 6 - Weigh in... (30th Nov)
Weight: 72.6 kg

I did it! I managed to lose the weight that I didn't lose in Week 4 and 5.
So that's exactly 6 kg in 6 weeks!

I need to improve to make it more than 1 kg a week...because if I just lose another 6 kg in 6 weeks, that would only be 66.6 kg.

My legs are sooooo tired... O.o
BUT I NEED TO DO THIS!
Oh God, give me the strength to do this!!!

The new goal for each day is to burn at least 2000 calories....

And I can't make it to the gym tomorrow (Saturday)...

Oh well, I guess I'll have to spread out the 2000 calories over the next 5 weekdays. *shrugs*

I think I am currently about the same weight as when I actively played softball in high school at the age of 15. That's a good thing.

Whoever reads this, please pray for me to help me on my journey. Thank you!

Love,
Me.

Weeks 4 & 5 - Weigh in...(16th & 23rd November 2011)

It's been a rough 2 weeks.
I attended 2 weddings, 2 Saturdays in a row.
I tried my best to control my intake but clearly the food was high in calorie.

Luckily, no more weddings for the rest of the year...it doesn't only help with the weight loss, it helps with the pocket too! ^.^

Week 4 - Weigh in... (16th Nov)
Weight: 74.9 kg

Week 5 - Weigh in... (23rd Nov)
Weight: 74.0 kg

I had only lost 500 grams in Week 4 and 900 grams in Week 5.
At this rate, I'll have to step it up.

I have done exactly that...My legs are so sore each day and the energy is sucked out of my body with each step.

According to the treadmill, I am now burning 800 - 1000 cals each time on it.
I burn 700 - 1000 cals on the bike... BUT I'm using lower tension because I'm worried about knee injury. I try my best to do the cross trainer each time at 300 cals but that's the toughest one and not my favorite of course.

Weight training is still done on alternate days.

So currently burning at least 1800 - 2000 calories each day at least 5-6 days a week.

I'm almost halfway through my regime. Time sure does fly!
Looks like it's a real race now if I'm going to meet my goal.

TTFN.

Weeks 2 & 3 - Weigh in...(2nd & 9th November 2011)

Ok, so I'm not that great with updating my blog.  :-/
I don't really go on the PC much.

Week 2 - Weigh in... (2nd Nov)
Weight: 76.5 kg

Week 3 - Weigh in... (9th Nov)
Weight: 75.6 kg

Weight loss going as planned (about lah)..

Just increased my daily cardio workout on Tuesday (8th Nov).
According to the machines, it's 300 cals on the cross trainer,  500 cals on the treadmill and 700 cals on the bike...(total of 1500 calories).
This is the minimum standard. I will increase accordingly if I feel I am able to do it.
E.g. 300 cals on the cross trainer,  600 cals on the treadmill and 900 cals on the bike...(total of 1800 calories).

Now I do machines and cardio on Mon, Wed & Fri.
Cardio only on Tue, Thu and Sat.

On Sundays, I do my stationary bike at home....trying to get in 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening.

Now I have to check my food intake...next research...good foods to eat to help keep me healthy and also help burn fat.

New info learned..
Taken from here.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the rate at which your total amount of energy your body burns over time while your body is at rest. BMR is the most common measure to find out your metabolism rate. Another common measure is Resting Metabolic Rate(RMR). Unlike the BMR, the RMR is defined as the rate which your total amount of energy that your body burns over time while your body is not doing anything i.e. lying on bed, sitting around.
Male BMR = 66 + (Weight in kg x 13.7) + (5 x Height in cm) – (6.8 x Age)

Female BMR = 655 + (Weight in kg x 9.6) + (1.7 x Height in cm) – (4.7 x Age)

Apparently, my BMR is about 1558.

More info on how to increase your metabolism can be found here.

Week 1 - Weigh in...(26th October 2011)

Ok, so this post is a little late...

I weighed myself in the morning before I started my exercise regime for the day.

Weight: 77.5 kg

Managed to reach the goal of at least 1 kg a week. GREAT!!!

BUT, I've realized that I may not be getting in the right amount of calories. I've read that if you eat too little, your metabolism goes down...then when you've lost all the weight and reduce the exercise, you'll gain a lot of weight back because your metabolism stays low...EEEEEEEKKKKKK!!!

Note to self
Read up on eating the right types of food and how to increase metabolism! =)

My own Body Makeover Challenge!

Since I didn't get in the NST Body Makeover Challenge, I decided to have my own Body Makeover Challenge!

The prize: My satisfaction in having achieved what I have dreamed of.

Objective: To lose 15 - 20 kg in 12 weeks.

Steps taken (or to take) to reach objective:

1. Join a gym. My morning jogging/walking was not helping me burn enough.
So I joined a small gym not too far away from home on 19th October 2011 (Wednesday). It has all the necessary equipment.

*No creepy characters so far*

Mr. TK, everyone's personal trainer.

Fellow gym-ers watching Michael Jackson's music videos while working out.

2. Be mindful of what I eat. Think before eating...whether I need to eat that particular food or not and whether it will benefit or harm my body [...will allow occasional bite of not so healthy food just to taste ^.^]

3. Eat less than 1500 calories daily.

4. Ensure I burn 700 - 1000 calories daily.

May these steps be something I stick with till the 12 weeks is up.
*Stay focus, you can do it!*

Starting weight: 78.5 kg

NST's Body Makeover Challenge Audition, 11th Oct 2011

Guess what comes around just as I decide to lose weight???
The NST Body Makeover Challenge! It's like it was meant to be! ^.^

I decided to send in an entry. Sent in a photo (of which I will not post up in case any of you throw up) and the entry form via email. Maybe I'll post up the photo once I've lost what I need to...a before and after photo, just like the ones in those funny weight loss ads.
Here is my entry form:

In case you can't read it...
My motivation to lose weight is...
NO MORE
- painful knees
- abrading thighs
- excess baggage "physically"
- excess baggage "literally"
YES TO
- more self-confidence (maybe should have put self-esteem instead)
- buying clothes easier & cheaper
- finally being able to swing across monkey bars
- being fitter & healthier
Weight: 78 kg...Height: 162 cm...BMI: 29.7...

Many people keep saying that I'm not that BIG and that I shouldn't worry too much.
You cannot compare me to someone who is bigger.
The truth is, I am nearly obese, even if I don't look like I am. So the fact is, I NEED to lose the weight (more specifically, the fat).

It's really tough being a BIG person. Not only is it unhealthy, it is inconvenient.
It's really hard to buy clothes and feel good in them. Worst part is, all the clothes that fit seem to be really expensive. Especially for someone like me who is not that big in the hips but have broad shoulders. I have a weird body shape I guess..

The audition was held at Celebrity Fitness, Bangsar Village II. It was to start at 10am but since I wasn't sure how big the crowd would be, I decided to be there early...reached at 8.30am...probably one of the first...as I did not see anyone else who looked like they were attending the audition too. As the crowd grew, they told us to go upstairs (even though when I asked the NST staff, she had told me that the registrations would be on the first floor of Celeb Fitness)...so at about 10.10am, the anxious crowd upstairs were told to go downstairs to register.

How awful! We were there first and now we would have to compete with those downstairs. (They probably should have had like a list for us to write our names as we came in to avoid any inconveniences for them and for us.)

I would like to thanks my favorite sister and one of my best friends for coming to support me! You know who you are lah ya? ^.^
THANK YOU GIRLS FOR COMING!!! Really appreciated it. =)

Anyway, I managed to get number 24. (Thankfully so as I think the judges had a lunch break after number 27 or so as we saw them in Delicious where we were having lunch too)

After lining up to register and get our number, we had to line up again to be weighed before going upstairs to (wait again for) the actual audition.

My recommended digits (according to the machine):
Weight: 55 kg
Fat: 13 %
Muscle mass: 41 %

My actual digits:
Weight: 78 kg
Fat: 31 %
Muscle mass: 42 %

I guess all the sports I have been playing have done some good. =)

The door to the audition room...there were 5 judges:
2 Celebrity Fitness Trainers, Ferhad (the singer) and 2 ladies from NST. When it came to my turn at about 12.10pm or so, I went in the room and was told to sit on the stool in front of them. Then they proceeded to ask me questions about what I was currently doing, whether I had a bf, whether I had been active before and Ferhad asked what I meant by "abrading thighs"...I had to explain about my thighs being sore after rubbing against each other whenever I wore a skirt. I think I even explained with my hand movements! LOL! One of the ladies said that they would definitely write that about me if I were chosen. I also stressed that I really wanted to be able to swing across monkey bars as I've always wanted to do that since I was a kid...thought it was something different.

Well, I thought the audition went well. Also thought that I had a good chance of being selected if they wanted a diverse group since I think I was one of the few "mixed" ones there.

Sadly, I was not selected. =(
Well, I guess they missed out on a super-awesome participant eh? Hahaha...

Read about the selected participants here.

Starting an Exercise Regime, 18th August 2011.

So I've decided to finally get serious about losing weight.

I've been overweight for as long as I can remember.
I've always been active in sports since Primary School and yet I've always been a BIG girl.
Netball, Softball, Futsal, Ping Pong, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis and Swimming are all sports that I enjoy. I would love to play other kinds too if I had the chance!
Also, it's not like I've been over eating and as far as I remember, we never had much junk food in the house and I don't recall eating much junk food either....well, except for the 'once in the blue moon' craving for Pringles/Mr. Potato's Sour Cream and Onion which came in a long canister!

Beginning weight (18th August 2011): 80.3 kg

Started jogging/walking at the stadium in the wee hours of the mornings with 2 of my buddies...it went well for about 2 weeks as we went every weekday....but it did slow down to a few days a  week after that. Thankfully I had my stationary bike at home which I did manage to do about an hour a day on it at least.

The weight went down slowly to about 77 kg after a month.
WOOT!!!
And then it went up to 78 kg...
O.o
